Before the full-scale invasion, about 24,000 people lived in Oleshky; now about 2,000 remain, suffering shortages of food, water and medicine. The Pope also participated in negotiations on opening the humanitarian corridor. Earlier, Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets announced the start of a “silence regime” for evacuating civilians from Oleshky. Russian sources report that no violations of the truce have been recorded so far.
