Apple acknowledges iPhone Duo screen cracks, offers replacements
–
Neutral summary
Apple has acknowledged that a small number of iPhone Duo foldable smartphones have cracked inner displays and advised affected customers to contact AppleCare for a replacement. Complaints came from China, the US and Australia, with users reporting a crunching sound when opening the device and cracks along the fold line within hours or days of purchase. The company did not explain the cause but said early customer feedback was “incredibly positive” and the issue is rare. iFixit's teardown points to potential causes related to the complex folding mechanism. Amid the outcry, Samsung released an ad showing an apple being cut, hinting at Apple, and claiming it is “years ahead” in foldable technology. Russian owners of the iPhone Duo, who paid about 500,000 rubles, face the problem that AppleCare does not operate in Russia and they must resolve the issue through the seller or the country of purchase. IT expert Vladimir Zykov linked the widespread defects to the folding mechanism. Outlets differ on the scale of the problem, from a “small number” of devices to a “growing number of complaints”.
