Houthi strike on Aden presidential palace kills five
–
Neutral summary
On Thursday, October 15, Houthi forces struck the Al-Maashiq presidential palace in Aden, the interim capital of Yemen and the seat of the country's internationally recognised government. Yemen's health ministry, cited by YemenInfo, reported five dead and 16 wounded. Earlier casualty figures varied: The Guardian, citing the Associated Press, reported two killed, while government military sources told AFP of four dead and 10 wounded. Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak and cabinet members present at the palace were unharmed. According to TASS, at least four missiles were fired at the complex, with five explosions heard in the area. The attack came amid a broader escalation: the Saudi-led coalition said the Houthis had struck Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport 20 times since the start of October, using 10 drones, four ballistic missiles, four cruise missiles and two unidentified projectiles. Saudi Arabia accused Iran of encouraging the escalation. The United Nations condemned the intensifying attacks by the Tehran-backed rebels. Canada advised its citizens to avoid all travel to Riyadh's main airport and non-essential travel to other Saudi airports, noting the capital's airport remained closed. Houthi Foreign Minister Abdulwahid Abu Ras told RT the group was ready for peace talks but demanded Riyadh lift its blockade and withdraw from Yemeni territory.
