Trump weighs 'mother of all bombs' strike on Iran

–

Neutral summary

President Donald Trump has confirmed that the US military is weighing fresh strikes on Iran, including the possible use of the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb (MOAB), known as the "mother of all bombs." In an interview with Newsmax, Trump said the weapon is "not nuclear at all" but "just an extremely large bomb," and did not dispute reports that such plans have been drawn up. According to CNN, the White House and Pentagon have prepared options for strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear sites, including the Pickaxe Mountain complex, where the US and Israel believe Iran has stored components of its nuclear programme. Trump said he does not foresee sending ground troops and predicted the war "will be over very soon," while suggesting intensified strikes could come after November's midterm elections. He reiterated that "Iran must never get a nuclear weapon." Iran's foreign ministry has denied any nuclear activity at Pickaxe Mountain, dismissing US threats as baseless. The reports come amid a conflict that began with US-Israeli strikes on Iran in February and has been at an impasse since the summer, according to France 24.
