Meghan Markle's father investigated over child abuse images
–
Neutral summary
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, said she is "deeply distressed" by reports that her father, Thomas Markle Sr., is under investigation over alleged possession of child sexual abuse images. In a statement, she claims she was made aware of "disturbing allegations" in 2018, when she was shown a letter sent to Scotland Yard, and that she severed contact with her father to protect her children. Thomas Markle denies the allegations. The investigation is being conducted in the Philippines, where hundreds, if not thousands, of images were reportedly found at his former home. The complaint was filed by his own son, Thomas Markle Jr., Meghan's half-brother. The Metropolitan Police said it is conducting an internal inquiry into claims that a letter was passed on in 2018. Outlets differ on details: The Sun reports the material was found by Meghan's brother, while other sources say the letter was written by a close family friend. Meghan's half-sister Samantha calls the allegations "all lies."
