First human death from Shamonda virus reported in France

Shamonda virus, first identified in Nigeria in the 1960s, is transmitted by bites of small insects such as midges. According to Le Figaro, the virus belongs to the Orthobunyavirus family. Investigators are working to determine how the infection occurred and whether the virus played a role in the patient's death. The WHO and French authorities are in contact to clarify the circumstances of the case.
