Премьер-министр Великобритании Энди Бернэм уполномочил британские вооружённые силы оказать Саудовской Аравии «оборонительную» военную поддержку в противостоянии с йеменскими хуситами. Решение было объявлено вечером 21 сентября после консультаций с министром обороны Уэсом Стритингом и главой МИД Эдом Милибэндом. В рамках поддержки Королевские ВВС направят в регион самолёт-заправщик A400M Voyager для дозаправки саудовских военных самолётов в воздухе. Это первое развёртывание британских ВВС в новой зоне конфликта с момента вступления Бернэма в должность два месяца назад. Поддержка будет ограниченной по времени и, по словам премьера, направлена на отражение атак, а не на участие в наступательных операциях. Решение принято на фоне участившихся ударов хуситов по Саудовской Аравии, включая попытку атаки баллистической ракетой по Эр-Рияду. Группа G7 потребовала от хуситов немедленно прекратить удары по Саудовской Аравии, обвинив их в нападениях на гражданские суда. Против решения выступили антивоенные активисты, а бывший лидер лейбористов Джереми Корбин назвал его «позорным» и заявил, что оно «втаскивает Британию в конфликт».
