Steven Soderbergh to Finish ‘The Batman Part II’ as Matt Reeves Steps Away

–

Neutral summary

Steven Soderbergh will complete the filming of “The Batman Part II” starring Robert Pattinson, taking over from director Matt Reeves at this stage of production. Reeves, who directed the first film and had been leading the sequel’s production, stepped away about two weeks ago — sources say since October 5 — citing family reasons. As a studio representative told outlets on Thursday, October 15, Soderbergh, an admirer of Reeves’s work, approached him and offered to help, and DC Studios gave the move its full backing. Reeves will continue to contribute remotely, while Soderbergh helps finish the final weeks of shooting. Soderbergh, an Oscar winner for “Traffic” and a Palme d’Or recipient for “Sex, Lies, and Videotape,” confirmed his involvement. “Matt and Steven will work closely with the cast and crew to realize Matt’s vision for the film,” the studio representative said. The release date remains set for early 2028, with some outlets specifying February 2028. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Reeves left to deal with a family situation, while Forbes describes the replacement as temporary.
