Trump's press secretary slams China's toilets, Beijing fires back with invite

–

Neutral summary

New White House press secretary Katie Zacharia, appointed less than a week ago, said in an interview with conservative commentator Jack Posobiec on Thursday that China lacks “proper toilets.” “I remember this very distinctly, having just come from China, thinking, ‘How is China the next country on the horizon? They don’t even have proper toilets,’” she said, as quoted by Bloomberg. Zacharia made the remark while discussing the perception around 2016 that “the gold days, the glory days of the US were over and China was on the horizon.” Beijing responded by inviting Zacharia to visit the country “more often,” according to Malay Mail, Le Parisien and the South China Morning Post. Zacharia is also under scrutiny over her legal credentials after giving an inconclusive answer about where she passed the bar exam, a prerequisite for practicing law in the United States, Euronews reports. Die Welt notes she is also under pressure over another matter.
