Skateboarder Diego Poncelet sets world speed record at 151.83 km/h

Neutral summary
Spanish skateboarder Diego Poncelet has set a new world speed record on a skateboard, reaching 151.83 km/h during a downhill run in Canada. The record was set on September 22 on the Route des Éboulements in the Charlevoix region of Quebec, the same road where the previous record had been established. Guinness World Records confirmed the new mark on October 15. On his first day of attempts, the 27-year-old athlete had already surpassed the world record with a speed of 146.88 km/h, but he was convinced he could go faster. Poncelet waited five days for the winds to die down and conditions to improve, then clocked 149.67 km/h and finally 151.83 km/h. “I never truly admitted to myself that my real goal was to reach 150 km/h. I was afraid it wouldn’t be possible,” Poncelet said, as quoted by O Globo. The Red Bull-sponsored athlete travels with a Buddhist monk he calls his guru, and El País reports that engineering and his mentor’s help were key to the feat. Poncelet said he wanted to “feel something no one had ever felt.”
