Porzingis steps away from basketball to prioritize health

–

Neutral summary

Golden State Warriors center Kristaps Porzingis announced he is stepping away from basketball to prioritize his health. In a statement posted on social media on November 6, the 31-year-old Latvian did not disclose the nature of the issue or whether he will return. “I was really looking forward to running it with this group, but as I ramped up, my body didn’t respond the way I anticipated,” he wrote. The Warriors have reportedly stopped his $20 million salary payments. Reports suggest Porzingis has been diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), which prevents him from handling NBA-level exertion. The team signed him to a two-year contract and expected his return, but he will not participate in upcoming team activities. Some outlets note his contract could be used in a trade, though the Warriors are not currently planning to part ways with him. Teammate Draymond Green addressed the situation, urging not to dwell on the negative.
