Meghan Markle's father Thomas Markle placed under house arrest on child porn charge
–
Neutral summary
Thomas Markle Sr., the 82-year-old estranged father of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, was arrested by the FBI in Florida on Friday, November 6, on a federal charge of possessing child sexual abuse material. A federal court released him under house arrest with electronic monitoring and ordered a psychiatric exam. Markle denies the allegations, calling them “sick lies.” Investigators seized about 78 items, including videos, film negatives, and books, during searches of storage units in California and locations in the Philippines and Mexico. Meghan Markle, who said she learned of “troubling allegations” against her father as early as 2018, expressed hope for a full investigation to deliver justice for victims. Markle faces up to 20 years in prison. Outlets differ on details: some report the arrest occurred at a care home, while others say he was expelled from the facility afterward. Daily Mail claims it tipped off the FBI, while Le Monde notes that allegations first surfaced in 2019.
