Armed Venezuelan migrant arrested near White House over alleged Trump threat
–
Neutral summary
US Secret Service officers arrested a Venezuelan migrant near the White House on the evening of November 5 after finding firearms in a stolen vehicle and hearing an alleged threat against President Donald Trump. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chirinos, was spotted acting suspiciously in a car parked on Constitution Avenue. Agents discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen and, with the man's admission, found an AR-15-style rifle, two handguns and dozens of rounds of ammunition inside. During questioning, the suspect said he heard voices in his head ordering him to travel to the capital and kill Trump, according to the Department of Homeland Security. He has been charged with multiple offences, including possession of dangerous weapons and theft, and is in the custody of the US Marshals Service. Fox News reports that the man, who was in the country illegally, had been released at the Texas border in 2024 under the Biden administration's catch-and-release policy. Secret Service Director Sean Curran said the agency is alarmed by the steady increase in threats against the president.
