Macklemore: Nine US Arenas Refused Free Palestine Tour

–

Neutral summary

American rapper Macklemore said on Instagram on November 6 that nine major US concert venues, including New York’s Madison Square Garden and California’s Kia Forum, refused to book his benefit tour Free Palestine. He said dates were pulled once organizers learned the shows were for Palestine. “In over 20 years of touring, I’ve never experienced anything like this,” he wrote. A representative for Madison Square Garden countered that the rapper is “not an arena-level act.” In October, Macklemore played three shows of the tour in Dublin, Paris, and London, raising funds for organizations providing aid to Gaza. The tour followed his removal as the opening act on Ed Sheeran’s tour in August, after stadium owners objected to him saying “Free Palestine” on stage. Macklemore said more benefit concerts are coming, even if the next stage looks considerably different.
