Президент США Дональд Трамп в субботу, 26 сентября, заявил, что отверг последнее предложение Ирана по открытию Ормузского пролива, назвав его «неприемлемым». Иранский план, переданный через Катар в ходе непрямых переговоров в Нью-Йорке на полях Генассамблеи ООН, предусматривал возобновление судоходства по проливу в течение семи дней в обмен на снятие санкций с иранской нефти, прекращение огня и отмену морской блокады. Глава МИД Ирана Аббас Арагчи заявил, что условия не выходят за рамки июньских договоренностей. Трамп, комментируя отказ, сказал: «Они хотят заключить сделку, чтобы немедленно открыть пролив, потому что сильно проигрывают». При этом американский чиновник утверждал, что переговоры через посредников, включая контакты спецпосланников Стива Уиткоффа и Джареда Кушнера с Арагчи, продолжаются. Ранее источники сообщали о проработке поэтапной сделки, предполагающей открытие пролива в обмен на снятие блокады. Сообщается также, что Трамп опубликовал карту, назвав пролив «Трамповским», а советник по нацбезопасности Ирана Мохсен Резаи давал США четыре-пять дней на ответ. В выходные йеменские хуситы атаковали Эр-Рияд. По данным Clarín, нефть Brent закрылась на уровне $104 за баррель.
