Британский фонд NHS признал, что 20 женщин перенесли ненужные мастэктомии при лечении рака молочной железы, а сотни других пациенток пострадали. По данным на 2 сентября, из 539 проверенных случаев умеренный вред был причинён 59 пациенткам, тяжёлый — 19, одна пациентка умерла, ещё 242 случая квалифицированы как «лёгкий вред». Расследование касается работы отделения патологии груди в фонде «Каунти Дарем энд Дарлингтон», где проверяются случаи с января 2023 по февраль 2025 года, а также данные до 10 000 пациентов за последние десять лет. Пациентки описывают шок и психологическую и физическую боль после того, как узнали, что удаления груди можно было избежать.
