Федеральный суд в Лос-Анджелесе приговорил бывшего сирийского чиновника Самира Усмана Альшейха к 60 годам тюремного заключения за пытки заключённых в тюрьме Адра в Дамаске. Это самое суровое наказание, назначенное иностранным судом чиновнику режима Башара Асада. Альшейх, которому 74 года, был арестован в США в 2024 году после того, как подал заявление на получение американского гражданства, и признан виновным в марте по трём пунктам обвинения в пытках, а также в сговоре с целью пыток и мошенничестве с визой. Ранее в тот же день сирийский суд в Алеппо вынес первые приговоры по делу о массовых убийствах алавитов в 2025 году: бывший военнослужащий правительственных сил получил 20 лет тюрьмы, двое сторонников Асада — смертную казнь и пожизненное заключение.
