World Athletics объявила, что чемпионат мира по лёгкой атлетике 2029 года впервые в истории состоится в Африке — в Найроби, столице Кении, которая опередила Лондон, Рим и Мюнхен. Решение было принято во вторник на заседании совета организации в Будапеште, где Мюнхен получил право провести чемпионат 2031 года. Президент World Athletics Себастьян Коу заявил, что «у нас было четыре выдающихся заявки на 2029 и 2031 годы, и совету было непросто принять решение». Лондон, чью заявку поддерживали UK Athletics, мэрия и правительство, выразил «глубокое разочарование» в связи с этим решением.
