Ураган Лоуэлл, ослабший до второй категории, в ночь на вторник обрушился на западные острова Гавайского архипелага, вызвав сильные ветры, проливные дожди и наводнения. По данным властей, десятки тысяч домов остались без электричества, при этом на одном из западных островов без света остались 91% потребителей. В связи с приближением стихии на островах Кауаи и Ниихау было объявлено предупреждение об урагане, а власти Гавайев ввели режим чрезвычайного положения. По данным Национального центра по наблюдению за ураганами США, порывы ветра достигали 177 км/ч, а в некоторых районах ожидается до 600 мм осадков, что создает угрозу внезапных наводнений и оползней. Ураган Лоуэлл стал третьей тропической бурей, угрожавшей Гавайям за последние недели, что связывают с аномально мощным феноменом Эль-Ниньо, который, по прогнозам, может сохраниться до февраля 2027 года.
