Британское агентство по безопасности в области здравоохранения (UKHSA) подтвердило, что в жилых домах на востоке Лондона впервые в стране обнаружена размножающаяся популяция комаров "Aedes aegypti" — переносчиков вирусов Зика, денге, чикунгуньи и жёлтой лихорадки. Специалисты UKHSA направили бригады для уничтожения колонии, пока она не распространилась. Ранее отдельные особи этого вида, обычно обитающего в тропиках, уже встречались в Британии, но размножение зафиксировано впервые. Эксперты связывают появление комаров с потеплением климата, которое способствует проникновению инвазивных видов, хотя текущий риск для населения оценивается как низкий.
