Председатель Федеральной резервной системы США Кевин Уорш в своей программной речи на симпозиуме в Джексон-Хоуле 28 августа заявил, что инфляция не замедляется достаточно быстро, и что центральному банку, возможно, придется повысить процентные ставки. «Нам нужно быть уверенными, что базовая инфляция движется к нашей цели ясно и с достаточной скоростью. В противном случае нам предстоит работа», — сказал он. После его выступления доллар укрепился, а фондовые индексы Уолл-стрит закрылись в минусе: Dow Jones потерял 0,02%, S&P 500 — 0,25%, Nasdaq — 0,52%. В Бразилии доллар вырос на 0,66% до 5,196 реала, а Ibovespa прибавил 0,22%. Аналитики отмечают, что комментарии Уорша повышают вероятность повышения ставки на сентябрьском заседании ФРС и создают напряженность в отношениях с президентом Дональдом Трампом, который выступает за снижение стоимости заимствований.
