Военный судья США назначил на 5 июня 2028 года начало процесса над Халидом Шейхом Мохаммедом, которого считают главным организатором терактов 11 сентября 2001 года, а также над тремя другими обвиняемыми. Все четверо содержатся в тюрьме на базе Гуантанамо, где и пройдут слушания. Ранее прокуроры запрашивали более ранний срок — январь 2027 года, однако судья Майкл Шрама счел его нереалистичным. Процесс, который должен был начаться еще в 2021 году, неоднократно откладывался, в том числе из-за споров о допустимости доказательств, полученных с применением пыток, и отмены соглашения о признании вины, которое позволило бы избежать смертной казни.
