Le Premier ministre britannique Andy Burnham a accepté de fournir un soutien militaire à l'Arabie saoudite dans son conflit contre les rebelles houthis du Yémen, soutenus par l'Iran. La décision, annoncée le soir du 21 septembre, a suivi les conseils du secrétaire à la Défense Wes Streeting et du secrétaire aux Affaires étrangères Ed Miliband. Ce soutien sera « défensif » et limité dans le temps, avec le déploiement d'un avion ravitailleur A400M Voyager de la RAF pour le ravitaillement en vol des avions de combat saoudiens. C'est la première fois que Burnham déploie un avion de la RAF pour assister un autre pays dans une nouvelle zone de conflit depuis qu'il est devenu Premier ministre il y a deux mois. Cette décision fait suite à une série d'attaques de drones et de missiles houthis contre l'Arabie saoudite, y compris une tentative de frappe de missile balistique sur Riyad. Le G7 a exigé que les Houthis cessent « immédiatement » leurs frappes contre l'Arabie saoudite, les accusant de cibler des navires civils. Les militants antiguerre ont dénoncé cette décision, l'ancien chef du Parti travailliste Jeremy Corbyn la qualifiant de « décision terrible et honteuse » qui « entraîne davantage la Grande-Bretagne dans le conflit ».
