Les élections générales en Nouvelle-Zélande se sont terminées sans vainqueur clair, le Parti national au pouvoir et le Parti travailliste d'opposition étant presque à égalité, chacun recueillant environ 29 % des voix, séparés par seulement quelques milliers de bulletins. Le Premier ministre Christopher Luxon a déclaré que sa coalition a une voie pour former un gouvernement, mais a admis que le résultat est « trop serré pour être proclamé ». Le chef du Parti travailliste, Chris Hipkins, s'est également abstenu de revendiquer la victoire. Selon la Commission électorale, environ 399 000 votes spéciaux restent à dépouiller, ce qui pourrait retarder un résultat définitif de plusieurs semaines. Le Parti centriste des opportunités, qui pourrait entrer au Parlement pour la première fois, pourrait jouer un rôle de faiseur de roi. Certains médias, dont The Guardian et Handelsblatt, rapportent que l'écart entre les blocs n'est que d'un siège, rendant l'issue hautement incertaine.
