Norwegian teen jailed 20 years for UK murder plot for Iran-linked gang
–
Neutral summary
Johannes Kongsnes Natland, a 19-year-old Norwegian from Stavanger, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with a minimum term of 13 years, at Woolwich Crown Court on Friday, 16 October. He had been convicted of conspiracy to murder following a retrial, having previously pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing a prohibited firearm and possessing ammunition without a certificate. In March 2025, Natland, a talented footballer, agreed to shoot an unknown target for €25,000 (£21,500) and flew to the UK, where he was arrested in a hotel room in Huddersfield two days later with a semi-automatic pistol, a revolver and 12 rounds of live ammunition. Prosecutors said he was recruited by the Foxtrot Network, a Swedish organised crime group linked to the Iranian state and sanctioned by both Britain and the US, which, according to Europol, pays young people to carry out "violence as a service". Natland claimed he did not intend to carry out the plan; according to G1, he was working part-time at a pizzeria when arrested. His defence lawyers have said they will consider appealing the sentence.
