Netanyahu's office, in a statement on X, described the incident as an "alleged assault" and cited reports that some 200 "Arabs and far-left activists" had confronted about 40 "Israeli youths," urging that the incident not be exploited to demonize Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria. Reuters witnesses, by contrast, reported an attack by about 80 settlers. This is the second attack on a journalist covering the olive harvest in ten days, after AFP photographer Jaafar Ashtiyeh was beaten and hospitalized. Haaretz reports a growing rift within the settlement movement, with some Gush Etzion residents pushing back against settler violence that prevents Palestinians from harvesting olives on their privately owned land.
