Albania protests enter third day, PM Rama refuses to resign
–
Neutral summary
Student-led protests in Albania entered their third day on Thursday, with clashes between demonstrators and police in Tirana and other cities. Prime Minister Edi Rama said he will not resign, insisting that governments change only through democratic elections. Protesters are demanding better university conditions, lower tuition fees and an end to corruption. Police reported dozens of arrests and more than 50 officers injured during the unrest. The protests began on October 13, sparked by high tuition costs, poor university conditions, corruption and a lack of job prospects. Demonstrators threw stones and Molotov cocktails at police, set fire to buildings and trash bins, and damaged government offices. Rama condemned the “chaos” and vowed that those responsible for damaging government buildings would pay. The unrest has spread to other cities, including Korça, where clashes also took place.
