Trump names Katie Zacharia as new White House press secretary
–
Neutral summary
President Donald Trump announced on Friday evening that he had appointed Katie Zacharia as the new White House press secretary, filling the role vacated by Karoline Leavitt in August. Leavitt stepped down to spend more time with her family and has since joined Fox News. Zacharia, 42, is a lawyer, conservative commentator and frequent Fox News guest who previously served as senior communications adviser at Trump Media & Technology Group and briefly as a spokeswoman at the Department of Homeland Security. In a statement on Truth Social, Trump described her as a "devoted fan and member of MAGA" and a "loyal and brilliant ally from the beginning." Zacharia responded that serving the president and the American people is "the honor of a lifetime." The Wall Street Journal reported that prediction market Kalshi has opened an investigation into at least three suspicious trades placed on its platform shortly before the appointment was announced. Some outlets noted Trump has again chosen a blonde for the role, while Blic reported Zacharia previously sparked controversy over remarks linking abortion pills to Nazi gas.
