US suspends Microsoft, Adobe and Indian IT firms from green card program
–
Neutral summary
The Trump administration announced on October 8 that it is suspending Microsoft, Adobe and six other major IT companies from the Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) program, which is typically the first step for foreign workers to obtain employment-based green cards. Vice President JD Vance, who leads the White House task force on fraud elimination, said the companies abused the system by replacing American workers with cheaper foreign labor. The affected firms also include Cognizant, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, HCL Technologies and Capgemini. Microsoft denied the allegations of fraud and abuse. India's foreign ministry called the move 'deeply offensive' and said it does not advance shared India-US ambitions. Analysts warn companies could face higher hiring and compliance costs. On the same day, President Trump awarded national medals for science and technology to leaders of major tech companies, including Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, Satya Nadella and Sergey Brin.
