US pulls bombers from RAF Fairford over Iran-linked drone threat
–
Neutral summary
The United States has withdrawn all its B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford in the UK after a security incident and suspected terror plot. President Donald Trump confirmed the move was prompted by “some threats,” saying the aircraft “didn’t fly out by accident.” The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times report the withdrawal was due to a possible drone attack planned by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Secretary of State Marco Rubio earlier said there was no direct link between the bomber removal and the incident, but Vice President JD Vance effectively acknowledged the connection and suggested Iran may have been involved. The incident followed reports of suspicious vehicles near the base and the arrest of six people on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts. British authorities insist the base is safe, and Iran denies involvement. Around 12 B-1 bombers, which had been used for strikes on Iran, were stationed at the base, according to reports.
