Widdecombe murder suspect charged over alleged terror plot against Farage

–

Neutral summary

On Friday 2 October, British police formally charged 28-year-old Joshua Kerry with preparing acts of terrorism, including against Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. Kerry had previously been charged with the murder of former MP and ex-minister Ann Widdecombe, who, according to CNews, was found dead at her home in southern England at the age of 78; the French outlet reports she was killed with 21 blows to the head with a hammer. Police said the new charges relate to conduct between May 2024 and July 2026, the two years before his arrest. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood vowed an update on protection for MPs, while the UK foreign secretary, as reported by Rzeczpospolita, said the charge would cause enormous concern. Meanwhile, Reform UK deputy leader Richard Tice said Farage's safety worries were 'not listened to'. On the same day, British police also said two Iranian nationals had been charged with preparing a terrorist attack against the Jewish community in northern England ahead of Yom Kippur. Earlier, on 1 October, UK counter-terrorism police announced the arrest in London of a 25-year-old British-Iranian man on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts in connection with Sunday's incident near RAF Fairford, an airbase used by the US; five Britons in their 20s detained near the base were later released.
