Police Scotland opens probe into Andrew, Epstein and Maxwell stays at Balmoral
–
Neutral summary
Police Scotland has launched an investigation into visits by King Charles III’s brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell to Balmoral Castle, the royal family’s private estate in the Scottish Highlands. A Police Scotland spokesperson said the force had received information and was carrying out active enquiries, but stressed they were at a very early stage. “All enquiries are evidence led, with the needs of victim survivors at the heart of those enquiries,” the spokesperson added, declining to comment further. Media reports say the investigation concerns an alleged 1999 visit by Epstein and Maxwell at the invitation of the then-Prince Andrew, and claims that women were trafficked to the estate. In February, Police Scotland said it wanted to speak to anyone with information about a 2006 flight to Edinburgh Airport on which Andrew and Maxwell were aboard Epstein’s private jet. Photographs previously released by the US Department of Justice reportedly show Andrew and Epstein on a shooting trip at the estate. Andrew has always strenuously denied any wrongdoing. The Daily Express was the first to report the new investigation, with other outlets including the New York Post and Sky News later confirming it.
