Musk pledges SpaceX share to every American child
–
Neutral summary
Elon Musk pledged to give one SpaceX share to every child in the United States in 2027, describing the move as the “first of many.” Estimates of the total value vary: Business Insider, Exame and Canaltech put it at about $10.5 billion, Mint at roughly $10.7 billion, and Golem at around $10 billion. The share price is about $146, according to Newsweek, while iXBT cites approximately $150. The number of potential recipients is estimated at 72–73 million minors. Musk did not specify how the shares would be distributed or whether all children living in the U.S. or only citizens would be included. President Donald Trump thanked Musk and said the shares would be delivered through “Trump Accounts,” a program of child investment accounts introduced by his administration. The announcement followed Anthropic, the maker of the Claude chatbot, saying it would allocate 5% of its shares to a “public benefit” fund for charitable giving. The Verge notes that Musk thanked investor Brad Gerstner for “helping enable this.” Forbes links the giveaway to the growing popularity of “universal basic income” as a response to AI development.
