Man dies in Six Flags roller coaster fall; company closes multiple rides
–
Neutral summary
On Monday, October 12, a 42-year-old man, Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, died after being ejected from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia in the US. NBC News reported one death and several injuries; other outlets, including La Patilla, cited four injured. Passengers were evacuated from the ride, with some having to climb down a steep descent. The victim's family said he had survived two cancers and a car accident three weeks before the tragedy; he worked as an IT manager for Atlanta Public Schools. Following the incident, Six Flags temporarily closed between nine and ten similar attractions across six or seven parks in the US and Canada, including Kings Island in Ohio. The company said it acted "out of an abundance of caution." Police and Six Flags are investigating; the cause has not been determined. Experts and policymakers are discussing the lack of federal regulation of amusement park rides in the US, and some outlets have linked the incident to the recent closure of the X2 coaster in California after reports of brain injuries, though no official connection has been established.
