Trump says Iran conflict will end ‘very soon’
–
Neutral summary
US President Donald Trump said the conflict with Iran will be over “very soon” and reiterated that Tehran will never have a nuclear weapon. Speaking in Washington, DC, on Tuesday at the launch of a new AI-powered federal platform, he said Iran is “failing very badly” and that “oil prices are going to be tumbling down.” On Sunday, Trump had already expressed confidence in a quick victory and said fresh strikes before the US midterms were “possible,” while rejecting Iran’s seven-day truce plan. On Monday, he denied an Axios report that he was willing to offer Iran sanctions relief and unfreeze funds in exchange for “concrete” steps on its nuclear programme, writing on Truth Social: “This is untrue. I offered them NOTHING.” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held another round of talks with Qatari mediators, through whom Washington’s final response to Tehran’s proposals on reopening the Strait of Hormuz is expected to be conveyed. Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei warned, as reported by La Jornada, that the US will be forced to leave the Middle East after suffering “painful blows,” while Iran’s parliament speaker and chief negotiator threatened that “if our security is not guaranteed, no infrastructure will be safe.” According to CNBC, Middle Eastern crude exports have rebounded to a war-time high, and Saudi Arabia has resumed exports through the damaged East–West pipeline.
