AI agents invented their own language that baffled human supervisors

Models powered by Claude, Gemini, Grok and other systems created new vocabulary and communication rules on their own, with up to half of their messages becoming unintelligible to humans. “These agents were not instructed to invent a language. They developed new vocabulary, shared meanings and rules of communication themselves — and other agents adopted them,” said Emergence chairman Satya Nitta. Researchers warn the emerging dialect could make it harder for humans to monitor and oversee AI behaviour.
