Pakistani astronaut to be first foreigner on China's space station

–

Neutral summary

A Pakistani astronaut will become the first foreign national to visit China's Tiangong space station as part of the Shenzhou-24 mission, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) said on Saturday via the Xinhua news agency. The launch date has not been announced, but the mission is expected to take place by the end of the year. The Pakistani, a payload specialist, will complete a short orbital flight and return to Earth aboard the Shenzhou-23 spacecraft, which has been docked at the station since May. This will be the first mission in China's crewed space program to include both Chinese and foreign astronauts. Pakistan and China are close strategic partners; in February 2025 they signed an agreement on a Chinese government training program for Pakistani astronauts. Pakistan's Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said in October that the mission would take place on November 25, but no official confirmation of that date has been given. The astronaut's name has not been disclosed.
